Either I have one of the biggest jerks of an ex-boyfriend or I just about got taken by a serious scammer.
So I was on facebook when my "friend" messages me, and we have the following chat. I just assumed it was my friend John, after all, that is who messaged me, who had to be signed into his account...right???
So you decide.
This is the conversations...

John

Stacey

Stacey
Okay, I am going to ask you one favor before we go on. k? It will only take a second
John
what?
Stacey
Just because I am using someone else's information, I want to make sure this is you and that your account didn't get hacked and I'm talking to some stranger about to do something illegal
So tell me something about me or some place we went or something so I know it is you.
I just don't want to go to jail if this isn't you lol
just indulge me and then I'll sign in
John
you know what stacy
never mind
Stacey
any real friend would understand why I just asked what I asked. I want to help you, I just wanted to make sure it is you.
And you know, if it is you, then no wonder we don't talk much. You don't even know how to spell my name
***************************
Just a couple of thoughts...
1. If I was stuck in London I would think I would be willing to give up the name of a restaurant or some memory or date or something to get some help. Seriously...how hard is that?
2. If for some reason that really was John, then he is just dumber than I ever thought he was to ask me to do something and then not verify who he was for my peace of mind.
3. That was just seriously strange. What are your thoughts?

Babe ya did the right thing... that wernt John-boy... wonder how they got into his FB account... probably not too hard for someone who knows what they're doing...
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were here and we were talking about this while it went down!!! :)
ReplyDeleteYou totally did the right thing. There are so many crazy scams out there lately that you just never know. At least you had the frame of mind to ask that.
ReplyDeleteQuick thinking Stace! LOVED the comment about spelling your name!!! The verification strategics rocked. Way to go!
ReplyDeleteThanks girls. I always read about this kind of thing but never think it will happen to "me". :) Never hurts to be safe...
