Happy Early Thanksgiving!!!

We are leaving tomorrow to head up to New York City to go to the MACY’S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE!!!! Granted, that is not the usual Thanksgiving routine, but since we are A.  too far from family to do the family dinner thing. B.  Turkey baking is not something I am good at. Frankly I am awful at it, and my previous attempts have left a stench in my house that took days to go away.  C.  This is our last chance to take in any of the cool stuff that this area has to offer, so how on earth could we pass up our potentially last chance to go to such an amazing event.

Jordan and Callie are flying up to Philly tomorrow, and after we pick them up we will take them to see the Liberty Bell and if we have time, Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence was signed.  It’s amazing how many people don’t know what Independence Hall is, and that is sad.  It’s such a beautiful, historical place and every corner of the building is filled with this overwhelming feeling of pride and awe and thankfulness.  So I suppose on this holiday, the time in which we are supposed to focus on what we are thankful for, there could be no better place to be.

After we spend some time there, we will head up to NYC, get to bed and prepare to wake up as early as 4am.  Yep.  That’s right…I absolutely refuse to go all the way up there and not have a front row seat, so we are going to get there, stake out our spot, and as strange as it sounds I’m tempted to pull the lady astronaut stunt and put a diaper on Eli so we don’t have to use the nasty bathrooms there.  Okay, so I really wouldn’t do that, but it’s tempting.  I have a problem with germs…a seriously big problem with germs.  Anyone who has ridden on the metro with me or stayed in a hotel with me know that I must spray everything down and disinfect all the disgusting things like door handles, telephones, remotes, etc before I let anyone touch it.

Then we have lunch reservations at a place in Times Square, and after that I’m sure we will head back to the hotel to just crash early and maybe rent a movie for the kids.  On Friday we have tickets to take the Ferry to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.  Then we will go to FAO Schwarz and mill around downtown (I’m soooo hoping to hit Prada again, but I won’t spring that on Norman till the last minute :)  We’ll see…it depends on how we’re all feeling and how much time and money we have left ;).

Before winding this up, I wanted to express a huge amount of gratitude to a friend that I will call “A” for privacy sake.  I just recently learned that you have been reading my blog, and the message you sent me this morning nearly brought me to tears.  Too often things are the way they are, and people are caught up in a very superficial life. Your message meant so much to me, and I am very thankful for you.  You have blessed me today…thank you.

I would like to wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving, and leave you with one message…

REMEMBER OUR TROOPS.  ALL OF THEM.  ESPECIALLY THE ONES WHO ARE OVERSEAS AND MISSING THEIR FAMILIES. AND SAY PRAYERS FOR THE CHILDREN AND SPOUSES WHO ARE FEELING ISOLATED AND ALONE DURING THIS TIME.  IT’S NOT SO JOYOUS FOR THEM.  HUG THEM.  LOVE THEM.  EXPRESS YOUR THANKS TO THEM.
